"William Edelen was chosen, by a unanimous vote by the Board of Directors, to receive a STAR on the WALK OF STARS in the downtown area of Palm Springs. The dedication was on January 15, at noon. The STAR was awarded to him for his contribution to the city in religious literacy and general education. The police said it was one of the largest crowds they had seen at a STAR dedication. The STAR is located in the VINEYARDS area at Baristo and Palm Canyon Drive. That location was chosen by
Edelen." |

Saw this beautiful poem in a book & wanted to share, it is by Charles
Snell and was written in 1914.
Title This is My Wish For You
This is my wish for you
That the spirit of beauty may continually hover about you and fold you close within the tendernesses of her wing.
That each beautiful & gracious thing in life may be unto you as a symbol of good for your soul's delight.
The sun-glories and star-glories
Leaf- glories and bark-glories
Flower-glories and glories that lurk in the grasses of the field
Glories of mountains and oceans of little streams of running waters
Glories of song of posey of all the arts
May be to you as sweet abiding influences that will illumine your life and make you glad.
That your soul may be as an alabaster cup, filled to overflowing with the mystical wine of beauty and love.
That happiness may put her arms around you,
And wisdom make your soul serene.
This is my wish for you.
Charles Livingstone Snell

At my Symposium today, 4 May, many wanted the name of a book I was using. It was:
THE WOMAN'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MYTHS AND SECRETS...by Barbara Walker...it is in hard and soft back...
The chapter on SEXISM opens with these words: "The Catholic Encyclopedia declares 'the female sex
is inferior to the male sex, both as regards body and soul.'"

The following quote from William Ellery Channing is profound in that it says clearly WHY we have our Sunday Symposium...now entering the 15th year:
"IT IS CHIEFLY THROUGH BOOKS THAT WE ENJOY INTERCOURSE WITH SUPERIOR MINDS.. IN THE BEST
BOOKS..GREAT MEN AND WOMEN TALK TO US...GIVE US THEIR MOST PRECIOUS THOUGHTS...AND
POUR THEIR SOULS INTO OURS..."

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile...but is morally treasonable to the American people."
Theodore Roosevelt, 26th US President...1858-1919 |

The present "born again" Christian hogwash with George Bush has reminded me of the Republican Convention in 1992. It was too much for even conservative columnist George Will, who wrote in his nationally syndicated column:
"The convention proved that there can indeed be indecent exposure of the mind as well as the body.
They pounded "family values" into shapeless mush with a bad odor. The effect of four days immersion in this thick soup of values-blather was cloying to the point of gagging."
No one has hit these phony shysters and Jesus jazzers harder than Carl Sandburg in his classic essay
"To A Contemporary Bunkshooter"
"You come along yelling about Jesus. What do you know about Jesus? You come along squirting words at
us, shaking your fist so fierce the froth slobbers over your lips...always blabbing we're all going to hell straight off and you know all about it. You don't scare me. I've got your number. I know how much you don't know about Jesus."
"You slimy bunkshooter. You put a smut on every human blossom in reach of your rotten breath belching
about hell fire. You, driving women and girls crazy with wrecked nerves from your gibberish about Jesus.
You four flusher, causing people to puke. You are only a bughouse peddler. You tell people in shanties that Jesus is going to give them mansions in the skies after the worms have eaten them. You tell department store girls all they need is sweet Jesus."
"I'm telling you, you slimy bunkshooter, Jesus would not stand for the stuff your're handing out.
I don't want a slimy bunkshooter in my religion."
Carl Sandburg
Reminds me of a Letter to the Editor I recently wrote about a shyster fundamentalist minister in the Palm
Spring area.
